A State of Mind

They say that age is a state of mind,
But somehow I think, they are just being kind.
‘Cause my body don’t work, like it use’ta did,
So I wonder who, they are trying to kid.

The first to go was the sense of sound,
But I didn’t notice, I’ll be bound.
When I finally discovered, that I couldn’t hear,
Said the doctor, “a hearing aid is warranted here.”

The next to go I think was my back,
There is definitely something there, out of wack.
The pain it keeps me, awake through the night.
“These pills”, said the doctor will put it right.

The eyes were the next sign of advancing age,
When little black spots appeared on the page.
But then when they began to blur,
These “specks,” said the doctor, are just the cure.

The dizzy’s began about two years ago,
This is the worst, I want you to know.
‘Cause now I can’t walk, can’t drive and can’t play,
Said the doctor, “a wheelchair will save the day”.

But the hearing aid don’t work, the way that it should,
The hearing loss is tonal, so it just ain’t no good.
And the pills eased the pain, so I now sleep at night,
But the side effects are worse, then an angry dogs bite.

With the specs I can see much better than before,
But trying to find them, is oh such a chore.
The wheelchair is grand, I now can go out,
But the modern world wern’t designed, for this runabout.

Now you may think I'm gripping, ‘bout my lot in life,
But that’s not true, just ask my wife.
For aging is not, just a state of mind,
But rather a race where the body, “out paces the mind”.

Lol, I remember when you had to use that wheelchair of yours and go shopping in the mall for all the food needed to do your large spreads at the church.
